Plans to Transform Adelaide Road Garden with Smurfit Westrock’s Charitable Foundation Support

We are thrilled to announce a generous grant from Smurfit Westrock’s charitable Foundation, the ‘Smurfit Kappa Foundation’ to enhance the garden at our Adelaide Road Assisted Living Home in Co. Dublin. This service, home to eight brain injury survivors with 24-hour rehabilitation support, also welcomes clients from our nearby Clubhouse in Dun Laoghaire. The transformed garden will play an integral role in the intensive rehabilitation offered to residents and Clubhouse members.

This Sensory Garden will feature a new patio, raised flower beds, trees, and shrubs, along with a Serenity Area that will include memory benches to honour past residents. The raised beds are designed to ensure accessibility for everyone, including wheelchair users. Safety is a key focus, with handrails and lighting providing secure access to the existing Calm Pod, creating a peaceful and relaxing outdoor space.

The sensory garden will offer more than just a green space; it will support physical, cognitive, and social rehabilitation. Residents and their families will enjoy the space together, promoting connection and reducing stress. Gardening will provide opportunities for physical activity, stimulate cognitive function, and foster a sense of community, combating social isolation.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Smurfit Kappa Foundation, whose commitment to working with communities for a better future makes this transformation possible.

We look forward to sharing photos of the garden’s transformation with you.
