Conor Kelly acquired a brain injury as the result of an unprovoked assault when he was just 21, turning his life upside down in a matter of minutes. Having worked incredibly hard through his rehabilitation journey, Conor decided to give back by taking part in ‘Abseil for Brain Injury’.

“”

The night I was assaulted, I left home as someone I’ll never see again. The physical and emotional impacts of my acquired brain injury derailed life as I knew it. It took a huge effort to get things back on track, including to return to work with the help of family, friends and the team at ABI Ireland. Abseiling was a big personal achievement. It gave me a chance to raise awareness of the causes and devastating effects of brain injury.

Participants will experience a breath-taking view of Dublin, from Howth to Killiney, as they descend the tower with expert guides ensuring safety at every step. It’s an exciting challenge that will stay with you forever, and especially rewarding is knowing that each step is helping to provide support, rehabilitation, and a path forward for those living with the impacts of brain injury.

A cause that matters: We are a national charity that support people and families affected by brain injury, helping them to rebuild their lives through specialised services and tailored rehabilitation programmes. Fundraisers like Abseil For Brain Injury enable us to provide more support and services to brain injury survivors living in Ireland. Your support can change someone’s life!

Our Interim Director of Fundraising, Marissa Tuccelli, explains the importance of supporting fundraisers like this and the incredible impact it can have:

“”

Brain injuries can happen overnight, as a result of a stroke, a fall, road traffic collision, or brain tumour, among many other causes. They can have devastating effects, both for the person and their family - but with access to the right support at the right time, survivors can regain their independence and live meaningful lives in their communities.

“”

The funds raised through this event will go directly to support the provision of rehabilitation, training, and practical assistance for those recovering from brain injury. Whether you’re coming alone, with friends, or as part of a team, ‘Abseiling for Brain Injury’ is a chance to take part in an exciting and meaningful challenge, while making a direct impact on the lives of survivors

A view from the top: The Smithfield Generator Tower, built in 1895 as a chimney for the Jameson Distillery, is one of Dublin’s tallest and most iconic landmarks.
